The Lake Clinic's 2003 bus, vital for transporting medical teams 1000km/week to boat landings that allow travel to remote Cambodian floating villages, is failing. Breakdowns delay clinics and waste limited funding. We must raise $50,000 to replace it with a reliable, second-hand bus from Siem Reap. This new "clinic on wheels" will ensure our doctors and nurses can provide up to 40,000 services annually without interruption. Your support provides the critical lifeline for healthcare access.
Our existing vehicle, a 2003 Hyundai and purchased second hand in 2017 is no longer up to the demand of traveling nearly 1000 kilometers per week. This usage along with the constant need for repairs and maintenance has reached a near critical level. Every breakdown delays clinics, wastes precious donor-funded support, and potentially can leave communities without care.
A new (or robust second-hand) bus directly translates to: 1) Fewer delays on clinic days with no need to find a rental replacement, 2) Ability to transport more staff, volunteers, and trainees, 3) Safe transport for medical and diagnostic equipment as well as all the necessary supplies for a multi-day mission.
For over 17 years, The Lake Clinic's fleet of boats have been a symbol of hope on the Tonle Sap Lake and the Steung Sen River. Our mission begin and end on land. Our aging, over-worked transport bus is the critical but fragile link that gets our medical teams, supplies, and equipment from our base in Siem Reap to the distant boat launch sites-and to communities unreachable except by water. This campaign will ensure that TLC can continue to provide more than 40,000 services each year.
