During the full-scale invasion, Maria's family in the Kyiv region came under fire. Svitlana's husband was killed, and the woman suffered a complex injury to the lower part of her leg. All of the bones in her foot were crushed. Surgeons wanted to amputate the limb, but after a consultation it was decided that the foot could be saved. Svitlana underwent 20 surgeries in 2 years, and now she can move freely.
Because of war, the number of people with disabilities due to limb injuries in Ukraine may exceed 100,000. Each of them would require expensive and multi-year treatment by the state if we do not pay due attention to preserving limbs now. The task of our doctors is to reduce complications from injuries and the likelihood of limb amputation, and most importantly, to save lives. Our doctors need special tools, “medical weapons,” to perform complex operations to save the limbs of the wounded from amputation.
Over the summer, we managed to raise funds to purchase "medical weapons" - 9 cannulated drills and files, which we donated to 9 Ukrainian hospitals where orthopedic specialists perform complex surgeries. We also purchased consumables and instruments for surgeries on the limbs of wounded military personnel and civilians.
All this was made possible by the donations of caring sponsors who support Ukraine in difficult times and our courageous people, who continue to defend their independence with dignity.
We express our sincere gratitude to our sponsors.
