INTRODUCTION
This report highlights Tabitha Home's activities over the past two months – May and June.
Tabitha Home is a care home dedicated to supporting orphans and vulnerable children. Our mission, "Inspiring Hope for Vulnerable Children," guides our work in three key areas: Child Development, Social Integration, and Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
We provide comprehensive support services, including therapies, education, and essential care. Our monthly theme-based activities teach valuable life skills, such as diligence and devotion. We also empower vulnerable women, youth, and children through targeted programs.
At Tabitha Home, we uphold child rights and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We maintain strict child safeguarding policies to ensure a safe environment. By providing holistic support, we help vulnerable children reach their full potential and inspire hope for a brighter future.
ACHIEVEMENTS
OVERVIEW
CHILD PROTECTION
Tabitha Home is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children. Our care facility is home to 62 children, and we adhere strictly to policies like the Child Rights Law, Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, and Health & Safety Policy.
These policies ensure the safety of staff, children, visitors, and stakeholders. Our facility is also protected 24/7 by trained security personnel, who work closely with community security teams.
By prioritizing our children's well-being and security, we provide a foundation for them to grow, learn, and thrive. At Tabitha Home, we believe every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment, and we are committed to providing just that.
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
In May, our children wrote their mid-term tests. Ten of our Senior Secondary School Three students began their WAEC examinations, which concluded on June 4th. We are proud to report that all of them passed their JAMB exams with excellent scores ranging from 213 to 294.
To support their academic growth, we have six lesson teachers who provide teaching support on allocated days and times to children who are academically laid back and need support. After the mid-term break, our children participated in a Cultural Day event at one of their schools, showcasing various cultures through traditional attire, dance, and other activities.
In June, two of our students commenced their NECO examinations, scheduled to conclude on July 24th.
PSYCHOSOCIALSUPPORT
Members of the staff continued to provide psychosocial support for the children through the activities in the home such as: key working, Kids Club and. Reading culture and outdoor social activities. These activities include group therapy sessions and activities that help each child express his or herself, get to understand their strength, discover their weakness and improve on it which in turn help to contribute towards the development of a total child.
NUTRITIONALSUPPORT
The children were fed with three square meals with mid-day snacks all through the month of June. The management ensured that each of the meal was well balanced with all needed nutrients for the children.
IN-HOUSE PROJECT/SOCIAL INTEGRATION
Children’s Day Outing
The children of Tabitha Home enjoyed a vibrant and memorable Children's Day celebration across six different locations. The festivities began on May 25th at New Covenant Church, Ring Road Center, where the children showcased their talents through Bible verse recitation, spoken words, and dance performances.
On the official Children's Day, May 27th, the children participated in multiple events across the city:
- 15 children attended the McEnnies Global Event at Bodija, Ibadan, featuring fun games, music,
and an inspiring talk on greatness.
- 6 children participated in the Golden Penny Children's Day Fest, engaging in various games and activities.
- 7 children represented ASOHON at Adamasigba stadium, taking part in a march-past.
- 10 children attended the Children's Day celebration organized by JDN Radio station, Ibadan.
The celebration concluded on May 31st with five children attending a party organized by ASOHON, where they presented a dance performance and participated in an educative session on bullying.
International Day of the African Child
In celebration of the International Day of the African Child, which took palce on June 16, representatives from 32.5 FM engaged with some of the children at the home. They asked thought-provoking questions such as what the children aspire to become in the nearest future, what lessons they have learned from the celebration of the African Child and what they would do for an African child if given the opportunity. The children responded meaningfully and shared thoughtful insights.
Boy-Child Conference
In celebration of the International Day of the Boy Child on May17th, boys aged 10 and above from the attended a Boy Child Conference held at secretariat, Ibadan. The event emphasized the importance of responsibility and aimed to instill values that promote responsible behavior in boys.
Musical Training
In May, a representative from City Gate Foundation Musical Academy continued the musical training sessions with the children. The organization is working on a music project with the children.
Birthday Celebration
In May 2025, we celebrated the birthdays of seven of our children. They were honoured with songs and prayers, and a birthday party was held in their honour on May 31st.
In June 2025, another seven children celebrated their birthdays. They were similarly celebrated with songs and prayers, and a birthday party was held on June 29th.
Asido Kids Challenge
In the month of June, one of the children from the home received a certificate from the Asido Foundation for being among the top 10 participants in the 6th edition of the Asido Kids Challenge. The challenge focused the topic “How I Show Kindness to Myself and Others”.
IN-HOUSE PROJECTS
Reading Culture
Our Reading Culture project promotes reading and personal growth among our children. In May, they completed the book "Growing Up" by Adeola Adekola, focusing on the final chapter "Preparing for Adulthood". The session covered time management, its causes, and practical improvement strategies. The children reflected on the book's lessons, shared their thoughts, and answered reflective questions.
In June, the children started reading "Keys to Excelling in Secondary School" by Kelechi Anyalechi. They explored Chapters 1 and 2, which discussed the transition from primary to secondary school and goal-setting strategies, including SMART goals.
Kids Club
Our Kids Club program is a dynamic platform for learning and growth, utilizing play, games, and meaningful discussions.
In May, the children learned about the Importance of Cleanliness and Organization. Through practical sessions, they developed essential life skills, including room arrangement, personal hygiene, and teamwork during daily chores. These teachings aimed to instil lifelong habits of orderliness and self-care.
In June, the Kids Club focused on relaxation, fun, and bonding. The children participated in various games, strengthening their relationships with one another and creating joyful memories.
Pass it on Project
Tabitha Home's peer mentoring program is an innovative approach to fostering leadership skills in children. By pairing older kids with younger ones, the program promotes personal development, academic excellence, and a sense of belonging. Through various activities, mentees develop essential life skills, including responsibility, conflict resolution, and cultural preservation. This initiative has yielded remarkable results, with notable improvements in education, physical health, psychological well-being, and mental development.
STAFF TRAINING
On the 2nd of June, a comprehensive training session was conducted for all staff at Tabitha Home. The training was facilitated by the project Coordinator, and the Home Therapist, ensuring a well-rounded perspective on the topic discussed.
The training focused on two main areas: Age appropriate needs and effectively handling pressure in the workplace. Staff members learned strategies to stay calm and composed when facing challenges both personally and professionally. They also learned the needs of children according to their age group.
CONCLUSION
At Tabitha Home, we remain dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children through shelter, support, and empowerment.
In May, our theme was DILIGENCE, guiding all in-house and administrative activities. Notably, our Senior Secondary School Three students began their WAEC examinations, which concluded on June 4th. We are proud to announce that all of them passed their JAMB exams.
In June, our theme shifted to DEVOTION, continuing to inspire our work. Our SS3 students successfully completed their WAEC examinations, and two of them commenced their NECO examinations on June 16th, scheduled to conclude on July 24th.
