At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC), we work to ensure that women and all people who can become pregnant have the correct information, feel supported in their decisions, and have the confidence to access safe abortion and contraceptive services when they need them.
Our technical innovation team specializes in creating tools that break barriers to abortion access—combining technology, communication, and advocacy to ensure accurate information reaches those who need it most.
We have created an Abortion Medication Access Map—a collective tool built together with organizations, grassroots groups, and users—that identifies places across different regions of Mexico where people can access misoprostol, or misoprostol and mifepristone.
This map was developed in response to a critical need: ensuring safe access to abortion medications while reducing stigma.
Today it includes more than 1,000 verified access points across 15 states in the country. To make navigation easier for users, each location is linked to the most widely used geolocation tool in Mexico. The map also provides helpful additional details, such as the approximate cost of the medication or whether a prescription is required at that point of access.
Integrated across several of our digital tools, the map has been consulted more than 15,000 times since its launch in 2023 and through October 2025.
