Abortion Access through Technological Innovation

Thanks to your support women and people who can become pregnant across Mexico now have access to clear, trusted information that helps them navigate the country’s complex and uneven abortion landscape. 

In Mexico, access to clear and reliable information about abortion varies significantly from one state to another. For many people seeking guidance, this uneven legal landscape can create uncertainty and confusion at a moment when they need trustworthy information the most. Having accurate, state specific resources is essential to help people understand their options and make safe, informed decisions about their reproductive health. 

As part of Ipas Latin America and Caribbean’s mission to ensure that people have the information and support they need to access safe abortion, our technical innovation team develops digital tools that remove barriers to care. To address the confusion caused by diverse legal frameworks across Mexico, we created state specific microsites that provide clear, localized information in three key areas:  

1. The grounds under which abortion is legally permitted according to each state’s penal code.   
2. Public health services where abortion is available. 
3. Resources on self-managed abortion, including organizations that offer additional information, support, or accompaniment. We currently have 13 active microsites (covering Baja California, Baja California Sur, Colima, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, Nuevo León, and Veracruz) with new microsites for Tabasco and Chiapas launched in February 2026. 

These microsites are actively reaching the people who need them most. They primarily receive traffic from organic searches related to abortion information, which shows that people are intentionally seeking reliable local guidance. Most visits come from the states for which each microsite was created, followed by neighboring states with more restrictive laws, highlighting their broader usefulness as trusted information sources.

Together, the microsites have received 168,680 visits. The most visited pages across all of them are those that list public health facilities offering abortion services, indicating that users are looking for concrete pathways to care. This direct engagement affirms the role of the microsites as essential tools for supporting safe abortion access.
