Dear Supporters,
Another busy quarter for the GVI Trust in Laos! Over the last 3 months we were able to provide scholarships for over 50 Lao students studying in Luangprabang, Vientiane, China and Thailand. In this way, The GVI Trust was able to contribute towards UNSDG#4, Quality Education, particularly key indicator: 4.B- “By 2020, substantially expand globally the number of scholarships available to developing countries, in particular least developed countries…” We are also working towards UNSDG #5, Gender Equality, by endeavouring to have equal numbers of males and females sponsored. This year, our sponsorships are nearly half and half with 56% male and 44% female sponsorships. We are also very excited to announce that we were able to support 2 female students to study abroad in China. These students received a partial scholarship, however the full cost of the funds needed for accommodation, food, visas and medical bills were not covered by the government scholarship.
Overall, the GVI Trust has greatly contributed directly to UN SDG #4, Quality Education, and it’s indicator: 4.B, increasing the number of scholarships available, through its continued support of increasing access to education for Lao students; and UN SDG #5 by increasing the number of female students who have access to education through scholarships.
The GVI Trust, in partnership with our generous donors, helped to provide the excess the girls needed so thank you all for the unwavering support.
With Gratitude
