Scholarships and Sponsorships for Laos Students

Dear Supporters,

Quarter 3 is always the busiest time of year for the GVI Laos Trust Project with the beginning of the school year. This year was no exception - Quarter 3 was a huge quarter for the us in Laos and we have used your generous donations to increase 75 students access to education:

• 46 students sponsored for 1 year at high school (2017-2018 fees)
• 47 students school uniforms and educational materials for 1 year
• 5 students sponsored for 1 year at university
• 2 students sponsored for 1 year at finance college
• 16 students sponsored at MEC in Nam Thuam
• 1 student sponsored for a computer course
• 1 student sponsored for 2 months at the Xayadeth summer school program.
• 1 student sponsored for 1 year at ARDA English centre
• 1 student sponsored for 1 year at Chinese school
• 1 student’s 2016-2017 university exam fee sponsored

This takes our total number of sponsored students in Laos to 113. This means that we have achieved one of our 2017 goals of reaching 100 sponsored students!

In addition to our direct sponsorship program, funds from the GVI Laos Trust have also gone towards increasing students access to education in several other ways.

• The rental of one classroom from September-December 2017. This enables GVI Laos to run an increased number of free English classes for local students.
• The Ban Ma house is complete, providing 8 students safe accommodation while living in Luang Prabang to gain access to education.
• Our annual donation to the Luang Prabang Children’s Library to help them continue their important activities and programs in Laos.

Finally, we would like to thank all donors that have contributed to our Nam Thuam and Luang
Prabang Sponsorship Programs. This September, a total of 25 students graduated from their
various educational institutions significantly increasing their future opportunities:

• 2 students graduated from high school.
• 1 graduated from Teacher Training College.
• students graduated from MEC Luang Prabang receiving their intermediate certificates.
• 3 students graduated from MEC Luang Prabang receiving their beginner certificates.
• 15 students graduated from MEC Nam Thuam receiving their intermediate certificates.

These are our first graduates for this program that we have seen through from the beginning of their studies!
