Progression of Afghan Girls Education

By Shehab Yacoobi | Project Manager

Since the suspension of girls’ education in Afghanistan, millions of young girls have been denied their fundamental right to learn, placing Afghanistan as the only country in the world where secondary and higher education for girls is banned. This has not only erased years of progress but has also stripped girls of safety, opportunity, and hope. Without access to education, girls face heightened risks of early marriage, poor health outcomes, and long-term economic dependency. Families are forced to confront a future where their daughters’ potential is systematically suppressed, impacting entire communities.

The consequences extend far beyond the classroom. Educated women are essential to Afghanistan’s healthcare system, economy, and social stability. As girls are excluded from learning, the country faces growing shortages of female teachers, doctors, and community leaders—roles that are vital in Afghan society. Through continued donor support, AIL remains committed to providing alternative education opportunities, advocating for girls’ rights, and sustaining pathways to learning wherever possible. Your generosity helps ensure that Afghan girls are not forgotten and that their voices, potential, and futures remain alive despite ongoing barriers.
