A deadly magnitude 6 earthquake and its aftershocks have hit Afghanistan once again, taking more than 2,000 lives, leaving thousands injured, and causing immense damage. These shocks are compounded by flooding and debris, hampering rescue operations in communities already struggling from years of devastating quakes and economic and humanitarian crises. This fund will support urgent aid and long-term recovery in affected communities.
The earthquake struck in eastern Afghanistan, inflicting widespread damage in Jalalabad Province. The disaster adds to already acute hardship in Afghanistan, a country in the grip of a worsening humanitarian and economic crisis after the Taliban's takeover in 2021 and devastating earthquakes occurring every year since 2021. Nearly half of the country's 39 million people face severe hunger, and recent escalations of conflict and crisis have thrown the lives of Afghan families into turmoil.
Donations to the Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund will support emergency response efforts across affected regions. Immediate relief will include search and rescue assistance, medical care, food, clean water, and temporary shelter. In the long term, your contribution will help rebuild homes and infrastructure and support local, community-led recovery efforts - especially those focused on marginalized and underserved populations most impacted by the earthquake.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
