Thank you for your support! Your donation to the Afghanistan Emergency Fund is continuing to help Afghans – especially women and girls – gain access to education, economic support, and essential humanitarian aid.

Since we last updated you, donations from the fund have supported two grants to high-impact, Afghan-led nonprofits.

Your support is urgently needed. More than half the population still requires humanitarian assistance, including over 12 million children. Meanwhile, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake recently hit villages near the Pakistan border Pakistan, killing more than 1,400 people. At the same time, more than half a million Afghans have been expelled or fled from Iran, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Tajikistan, returning with little support, income prospects, and safety upon their return.

During these challenging times, here’s some of the critical work being funded:

  • The Bamyan Foundation is highly active at the Afghanistan-Iran border, providing food, water, medicine, and necessities to children, the elderly, and the most vulnerable. The nonprofit is also assisting families with access to transportation from the border to the refugees’ native villages. To generate even greater resources for this important work, Bamyan is participating in a matching campaign fundraiser to provide cash assistance to Hazara families deported from Iran in hopes of enabling the refugees to purchase their own supplies as they make their way back into Afghanistan.

If you are interested in supporting our Afghanistan partners, a number of Afghan-led organizations are participating in GlobalGiving’s Safer World Fund Campaign. Between September 11th and December 31st, 2025 organizations will be eligible for a certain percentage of funds matched by GlobalGiving. This is a potent moment to stand with participating organizations – your support can go even further right now!

We cannot thank you enough for your support. Your donation to the Afghanistan Emergency Fund fuels community-level responses across Afghanistan, and ensures Afghans have access to vital resources, economic support, aid, and more.

Until next time.

With gratitude,

Nicole + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
