We’re reaching out today in appreciation and with an update regarding your donation to the Afghanistan Emergency Fund. This fund continues to help Afghans, and more recently, Afghan earthquake survivors, find stability, food security, and economic opportunities as they do the big work of rebuilding their lives.

This fund continues to adapt to the most pressing needs of Afghans, and right now, that is disaster recovery. Since August 2025, several earthquakes and multiple aftershocks have killed thousands of people and destroyed important structures. Just this month, another struck Mazar-i-Sharif. Leveraging the Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Fund, we provided several grants to high-impact organizations responding to the earthquakes.

The Afghanistan-American Friendship Foundation (AAFF) is one of those organizations. They are delivering aid and conducting winter food distribution programs, which provide families with a month’s worth of food. They are also hiring women to make blankets for distribution. Responses like these weave food, jobs, and warmth for Afghans who need this care urgently.

We also wanted to share another program that is deeply connected to this fund: the Safer World Fund Campaign. Right now, through December 31, 2025, participating organizations like AAFF are eligible for a portion of funds to be matched by GlobalGiving. This is a great opportunity with nonprofits doing imperative work in the Middle East to improve safety, offer education, bolster living conditions, and create peaceful spaces. Check out the linked project page to learn more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this—and for standing with this fund and the real Afghans it reaches. We can’t begin to express how much your support means or how far it reaches, but we hope these reports offer even a small glimpse into the impact you’re making.

Until next time, and with gratitude,

Nicole + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
