Give 220 Disadvantaged Children a Brighter Future

Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to continue providing free English education to over 300 disadvantaged students aged 7 to 14 at Kamala School in Phuket, Thailand. Most importantly, every child knows that our teachers are there for them — whether they need someone to talk to about their day at school or simply ask for a new pair of socks when theirs have worn through.

Beyond the classroom, our teachers and volunteers run the crucial after-school Coconut Club for more than 220 children aged 7 to 18 who live at the school during term time due to their family circumstances. Since our last update, the children have continued to enjoy outdoor sports such as badminton, skateboarding, and skipping. In arts and crafts, the most popular session this term was definitely working in teams on woodcraft construction. Of course, cooking afternoons are probably at the top of every single child’s list due to the eating that comes next! With each session, we’ve seen the children grow in confidence, develop friendships, and thrive in this fun, nurturing environment.

Our local community has also played a vital role in supporting our mission. In September, the Hyatt Regency Kids Club visited Kamala School to host a party for all the children aged 7 to 14 who live there. The day was filled with laughter, team-building games, and delicious food, making it truly special for every child. That wasn’t all, friends of the Foundation also donated school supplies, toiletries, shoes, socks, and gently pre-loved soft toys and clothing. The children were thrilled to choose from these thoughtful gifts, their beaming smiles saying more than words ever could.

It is only through the compassion and generosity of donors like you that our teachers and volunteers can continue making a lasting difference in these children’s lives. Thank you for helping us provide hope, opportunity, and education to the underprivileged children in Kamala School.

The month of May marks the start of a new school year in Thailand, and for many of the 300 children living full-time at Kamala School, it was a new chapter in their lives. Among them this year were around 50 children, some as young as 7, arriving for the very first time, many leaving behind challenging family circumstances.

Imagine how daunting it must be for a child to walk into a huge school with over 800 students, then spend the night in a dormitory far from home, surrounded by strangers. It’s in moments like these that the support of their Phuket Has Been Good To Us teachers and the warmth of the after-school Coconut Club become truly vital.

Each weekday, the Coconut Club provides a safe space where students can relax, learn, and build friendships. Through sports, arts and crafts, games, and other activities, children can find comfort, belonging, and moments of joy. We also host special birthday parties, give gifts, and provide essentials like school supplies and pre-loved clothing — creating memories that help these youngsters feel valued and loved.

One heartfelt message from a student captures the essence of why this work matters:

“I love learning in the teacher’s English class because lessons are fun, and teachers help us with everything, even outside of class. In the Coconut Club, we also get to have fun and enjoy treats. I hope teachers will stay at our school for a long time and watch us graduate. I love you all, teachers.”
