Great year at Ahava Home

Dear friend,
During these last few months, we received four survivors. Some stayed temporarily, while others continue their process in the shelter program. All received a special welcome, basic services, medical and psychological care, and support with their legal processes. Each received a welcome kit, clothing, shoes, and personal hygiene items. We ensured their food, health, and basic needs were met, as well as special needs such as dental and gynecological treatments.

The work presents many challenges, not only in providing the specialized care they require but also in modeling a different way of relating to others. For most of the women, everything sometimes seems so new, such as being treated with respect, being able to talk about their emotions even when it's uncomfortable and realizing that this is not a reason for rejection, receiving loving care and boundaries, and many other things they learn during their stay so they can take them with them for their lives. For the staff, it's important to plant seeds of faith and perseverance in them, but also the seeds of action, decision-making, and the responsibility that comes with their life plans.

We closed the year with academic achievements, the beginning of new stages in their development, and entrepreneurial ventures as sources of income during their transition to independence.
Their tutoring, music, counseling, group and individual workshops, and child therapy, among other things, were key this year.

Every person who arrives at Casa Ahava has a story that can represent a challenge in their legal, emotional, and health processes. Their time in this shelter is only a small part of their future, and we work convinced that it is possible for them to live in freedom, that they will never again be used or treated as objects.

In recent months, we have welcomed several small families and we want to share Alejandra's story with you. She is 10 years old and was admitted with various attention and care needs. Due to her background, her life was in danger, and we are very grateful that she was able to be rescued, as are the other users of this program.

Alejandra has taught us about courage. At her young age, she has not only been through so many things that no child should have to go through, but since her stay at the shelter, she has also been brave in her journey. She has received specialized medical care and treatment, as her health was affected by her life story. On the other hand, she receives child therapy, dental treatment, support with her legal paperwork, and all the services of the shelter, which has become her home.

Another difficulty she faced upon arrival was that she couldn't read or write, but thanks to the classes she receives at the shelter and the work of the entire team, she has made enormous progress. Alejandra is a unique child, with a strong yet tender temperament. She loves to talk, play, and laugh, and is very open when expressing her thoughts and feelings. We trust that her future is bright and that her resilience will lead her to heal and recognize the value of her life.

We can't recount the details of each story, but we deeply appreciate the support and sensitivity of those who contribute to this cause. Every donation supports the full operation of this shelter, so we can only thank you for considering this project. As I mentioned before, it is a challenge, but it is possible to move forward with the support of many.
