The Aid to Drought & Conflict Affected People in Ethiopia project (#58760) has continued to provide critical humanitarian support to communities facing severe food insecurity, water shortages, and displacement due to drought and local conflicts. Since the last update:
1,200 households received emergency food assistance, ensuring immediate access to basic nutrition and reducing the risk of malnutrition among vulnerable children and adults.
800 families benefited from clean water provision through the distribution of water treatment supplies and the rehabilitation of 5 community water points.
500 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were supported with non-food items including blankets, cooking utensils, and hygiene kits, helping to restore dignity and safety in temporary shelters.
This support was made possible through an in-kind contribution from Ato Aklilu Hiwot, hotel owner in the Amhara region, whose generosity helped extend relief to more households in need.
This project has successfully combined emergency relief with efforts to strengthen community resilience, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need while promoting sustainable recovery strategies.
Learning from Challenges
The project faced multiple challenges, including logistical difficulties in delivering aid to remote areas, insecurity in conflict-affected zones, and unpredictable weather patterns impacting access to water and food supplies. To address these:
Mobile distribution teams were deployed to reach remote communities safely.
Coordination with local authorities and community leaders was intensified to ensure secure aid delivery.
Contingency planning and buffer stocks were established to mitigate disruptions caused by weather or conflict-related delays.

Final Reflection and Appeal
This project has gone beyond immediate relief by empowering communities to recover, maintain health, and rebuild their livelihoods. Despite these successes, the ongoing drought and local conflicts mean that the need for humanitarian support remains high.
We urgently seek continued support from donors and partners to sustain and scale our interventions, expand clean water access, and provide ongoing assistance to vulnerable households. Your support directly impacts lives, restores hope, and strengthens resilience in Ethiopia’s most affected communities.
