Access to education, health, culture, and nutrition is helping to bring meaningful change to the lives of the communities we serve. From January to May 2025, the Wayuu Taya Foundation continued its programs in Venezuela, reaching thousands of people in vulnerable and Indigenous areas through coordinated, community-based action.
Health Program
Four health drives were conducted during this period, providing medical assistance to 2,325 people, including 1,777 children and adolescents. Services included general consultations, pediatric care, diabetes screenings, and the delivery of essential medicines.
Our oral health campaign reached more than 90,000 people through schools, institutions, and health centers. 87,218 children and adolescents, as well as 2,827 adults, received dental kits and participated in hygiene education sessions focused on brushing techniques and the importance of oral care.
The distribution of medicines and medical supplies remained a priority. A total of 44,747 people, including 8,949 children and 35,798 adults, were supported through deliveries to 62 health centers and 7 institutions. Additionally, 262 health workers received medical essentials, and more than 26,700 items were distributed, including pain relievers, inhalers, oral rehydration solutions, and protective equipment.
Water and Hygiene Program
Thirteen handwashing stations were installed in schools across Mara, Machiques, and Guajira. Each installation included hands-on sessions teaching children the importance of proper handwashing and daily hygiene. This initiative supports long-term disease prevention and helps foster a culture of self-care from a young age.
Food Program
Between January and May, 41,695 kilograms of fruits and vegetables were delivered, and 134,455 plates of food were served across school-based meal programs. A total of 4,812 children in 40 schools were reached through this initiative.
Music Program
A total of 234 children from our Nucleo Wayuu Taya, attended the Encuentro de Núcleos, held in celebration of 50 years of El Sistema de Música, at the Teatro Municipal Castor Emilio Almarza in El Moján, Mara Municipality.
In a thrilling concert, musicians from Núcleos Mara and Wayuu Taya delivered an impressive performance featuring students from the early music program, choral program, Alma Llanera program, and orchestral program.
The choirs and orchestras from both núcleos performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, also known as the Ode to Joy, the beloved song "Venezuela" by Pablo Herrera Ibáñez and José Luis Armenteros Sánchez, and "Merengue del Primero" by Carlos Medrano.
It was a joyful gathering of young musicians from many communities.
Also, as part of the 50th anniversary of El Sistema, a group of nine children from the Wayuu Taya Nucleus participated in a choral concert featuring a selection from Mahler alongside other regional choirs.
We also hosted our first transverse flute recital at the Villa Carmen Cultural Center in Maracaibo. Three young musicians, Yohander Manares, Jhostin Bermúdez, and Daviangely Molero, performed beautifully and were recognized with certificates for their dedication and talent.
These musical moments celebrated achievement and honored the legacy of Maestro José Antonio Abreu, reminding us of the transformative power of music.
This work is made possible thanks to the support of our partners:
