Access to education, health, water, culture, and nutrition continues to bring meaningful change to the lives of the communities we serve.
From June to September 2025, the Wayuu Taya Foundation continued its programs in Venezuela, reaching thousands of people in vulnerable and Indigenous areas in collaboration with local communities.
Health Program
During this period, two specialized health drives were carried out, focused on oral and visual health, benefiting 1,196 people, including 1,064 children and 132 older adults, across 83 communities.
Our oral health campaign reached 27,519 people, of these, 26,084 were children and adolescents, and 1,435 were adults.Participants received dental kits and hygiene education sessions that emphasized brushing techniques and the importance of maintaining daily oral care.
The distribution of medicines and supplies also continued in collaboration with our partners, supporting people through the delivery of essential items such as antibiotics, pain relievers, and protective equipment for health personnel to health centers and community institutions.
Water and Hygiene Program
Continuing our efforts to promote hygiene and disease prevention, 10 new handwashing stations were installed in schools located in the municipalities of Mara and Maracaibo. The installation were accompanied by awareness sessions on handwashing and hygiene practices, promoting long-term habits of cleanliness and self-care among children.
Additionally, the fresh water supply program was launched from Granja Mirabello to the Alto Arenoso community, benefiting 381 people, including 172 children and adolescents.
This initiative has significantly improved access to clean water for a population that previously lacked this essential resource.
Food Program
Between June and September, a total of 27,618 kilograms of fruits and vegetables were distributed, and 89,677 meals were served through school-based meal programs.
This initiative benefited more than 3,500 children across 30 schools, helping to improve nutrition and supporting school attendance.
Music Program
Our young musicians continued to shine through various performances and festivals organized in collaboration with El Sistema.
Highlights included:
The Classical Guitar Concert took place on June 26, where four talented members of the Núcleo Fundación Wayuu Taya performed alongside peers from across the Zulia region at PDVSA La Estancia.
On June 28, our students showcased their talent and dedication during the National Viola Festival at the Zulia Public Library, honoring Maestro Frank Di Polo.
The Season Finale Concert on July 21 brought together more than 200 children who filled the stage with energy and joy, celebrating their progress through orchestral, choral, and traditional Venezuelan music.
Later that month, on July 25, twenty-five students from the Núcleo Fundación Wayuu Taya participated in the Cello and Violin Festival “Bows Without Borders”, a vibrant inter-núcleo event held at the Villa Carmen Cultural Center.
Finally, on September 15, the new school year officially began at the Tepichi Talatshi School, in partnership with El Sistema, marking a new chapter of learning and growth for our young musicians.
Music Heals
The Music Heals Program closed its cycle with a showcase on August 7, where 31 students presented their progress with performances on guitar, cuatro, bass, keyboard, trumpet, drums, and vocals.
The event highlighted the dedication, effort, and progress of the children, as well as the commitment of their teachers who guide them every step of the way.
After a short break, auditions were opened and a vacation music program was held to keep children learning and practicing. By the end of August, 30 new students joined, bringing the total to about 60 active participants. Classes have now resumed, and the program continues to expand and strengthen musical education for the children.
These activities highlight the power of music to inspire, connect, and transform lives.
This work is made possible thanks to the generous support of our partners, volunteers, and all those who contribute in different ways to make our mission a reality.
Core Response, Direct Relief, Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), El Sistema, Music Heals International, Frank Giustra, Giustra International Foundation, Acceso, Colgate-Palmolive Venezuela, and our dedicated volunteers, together with everyone who offers their time, resources, and commitment, make it possible for us to keep bringing health, nutrition, education, and culture to the communities that need it most.
