This young man dances the traditional Rwanda dance known as “Intore”. His headdress resembles a lion’s mane and dramatically projects unbounded strength and agility. This dance style has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s “intangible cultural assets”, and worthy of preservation.
Once a month on the broad public stage, larger performances are held that include participants from outside the community. These gatherings create opportunities for cultural exchange and allow the performers to share traditions with a wider audience.
The performance activities have also expanded market opportunities for the community. Performances attract visitors and create a platform where local products and services can be promoted, helping families increase their income while celebrating culture and unity.
