In Taiwan, while we are fast becoming a super aged society, we still face difficulties in funding for our support for older folks programs that truly stimulate and provide empowerment of enriching classes keeping them up with current trends. Depsite the obstacles, we still managed to create two fun workshops this summer.
We went with the careful simplicity and care of baking and floral decor on vegan cupcakes then switched gears into boxing gloves soon thereafter. The beautiful and colorful cupcakes with delicacies of flower frosting paired with edible flowers was a magical treat for the eyes and palate. The boxing class took onto it's own life - there were many doubts and questions raised on whether this was an activity that would be suited or dangerous for our older friends. Any doubters were quickly proven wrong as we had to keep everyone in check from being overly excited in punching around. All wanted their own turn in "the ring" and the class time overextended by half a hour. Everyone is a champion! We treated them to plant-based tuna sandwich melts and kefir drinks from GUT co.
At an average of one workshop every two months due to insufficient funds dedicated to older folks, we are really hoping to ramp up frequency and also locations as we've had many requests from other community centers. Life is precious and making each and every moment an act of pure joy is the ritual that Bright Side Projects hopes to provide.
