I’d like to share a story that beautifully captures what your support of our Serving 3.200 elderly in our In-Home Care Program makes possible.

Manuel lives in a modest home in Santiago and is part of our PADAM program at Hogar de Cristo. Years ago, he met Berta, a fellow neighbor, while working as a driver. Their connection grew slowly but surely. “I just liked her,” he says simply. One day, Berta was injured in an accident and became fully dependent. Since then, Manuel has never left her side.

Today, they live together in a quiet, loving routine. She smiles when he speaks to her, even if she can no longer respond with words. “I talk to her all day. I know she hears me,” Manuel says. He bathes her, feeds her, and accompanies her through each moment.

Through PADAM, Manuel and Berta receive essential support: home visits from trained professionals, guidance for caregiving, and emotional support. We don’t just care for Berta—we care for Manuel too, so he doesn’t carry it all alone.
