Therapy and Food for children with Autism in Kenya

Over the past few months, Step Up 4 Autism has continued to make steady progress in improving the lives of children with autism in Mathare through therapy and nutrition support.

Each week, 50 children receive occupational, speech, and behavioral therapy, helping them build communication, focus, and social interaction skills. Alongside therapy, families are provided with nutritious food parcels, ensuring children stay healthy enough to benefit fully from their sessions.

Caregivers have also taken part in training workshops that empower them to apply home-based techniques, turning small daily routines into meaningful therapy opportunities.

Parents continue to report visible improvements in their children’s confidence, speech, and engagement. These stories remind us that your continued support is not just changing routines—it’s changing lives.

Hello Friend,

Since our last update, we’ve continued to provide consistent occupational and speech therapy to children with autism in Mathare, alongside monthly distribution of nutritious dried food parcels to their families. These services are critical lifelines for children in informal settlements who would otherwise lack access to specialized care.

In this period, over 60 children received therapy services, and 50 families benefited from our nutrition support program. We've also conducted two caregiver training sessions to help parents apply simple therapy techniques at home—strengthening the link between clinic and community care.

The impact is visible: caregivers report improved speech, behavior, and engagement among children. With continued support, we aim to reach more families and strengthen our food basket offering to better match nutritional needs.
