School Visits!

Teodora

Dear Friends,

Laura Larkin, our CEO, and I are currently in Barlad, spending time with our amazing team and special kids!  It's been wonderful to their progress, especially the children who have autism. We have been succeeding in our mission to have our kids attend regular school. This fall, we have more children than ever that are going to school while coming to our Delia's Learning Center for the educational and social support and therapies they need to prevent school drop and ensure a more positive future. This week, Laura and I went with one of our Executive Director and a Romanian board member to visit the school of a 2nd grade girl named Teodora who has autism.  Teodora lives in a rural village 1 1/2 hours from our center. She comes to us twice a week - AND YES! This means she commutes three hours a day, twice a week just to receive our services and support. Along with our Executive Director, we decided to visit her school, meet her teacher in person and gather information about any ways we can further assist Teodora to make sure she progresses. It was wonderful to hear her teacher says that Teodora's writing and reading skills are good and she credits our team. She also asked that we now turn our attention to boosting math skills and continued work on Teodora's social skills and her speaking ability (through speech therapy). Teodora currently attends public school three times a week and comes to us the other two, with permission from the school authorities.

We thought you might like to see some of the photos from this day at school. Thank you, as always, for your support which has made it possible. The rate of autism is very high here. More and more kids are referred to us.  Please consider continuing to support the children by making a donation to ensure we can continue our autism program and expand it.

Best,

Lauren Fishbach
