Back to school supplies

In April 2022 the Province of KwaZulu Natal and parts of Eastern Cape in South Africa were hard hit by severe storms.  The storms caused extensive damage and suffering to communities.  More than 440 people were declared dead, with dozens more people missing.  The storm destroyed roads, infrastructure, and housing.  It is estimated that more than 40 000 people were displaced.  150 Schools have either been totally or partially damaged. HOPE Africa reached out to clergy in the area to coordinate a relief effort for the severely affected areas. As part of the response, there was a need to provide school uniforms to children who are displaced. The donated funds contributed to purchasing school uniforms for 300 children (180 girls and 120 boys) in the KwaZulu Natal Ethekwini Metro area. The uniforms will be handed over together with other supplies on the week of 14 June 2022. HOPE Africa CEO and other stakeholders are going to be visiting and overseeing the distribution of all items. Pictures and more information about the handover will be included in the next report.

Even though 300 school children will benefit from this response, the need is far greater and many more children still need school supplies. The academic year has begun in Southern Africa and as such parents and caregivers have had to make sure that children have their full school uniforms, school shoes, books and stationery.

Through your kind and generous support, HOPE Africa has been able to reach out to children in Lesotho (a Country surrounded by South Africa). Lesotho is a small mountaneus country with man rural communities. Tikoe Primary is a primary school in one of the very poor communities in Lesotho.

107 Children were provided with:

* School excercise books,

* Pencils and Crayons

* Rulers and eraser and 

* Colouring books for the younger children.

There was much joy at the school, when the local Bishop, the Right Reverend Vicentia Kgabe arrived with all the school provisions and handed then out to the children.

We do wish them a productive 2022 without many disruptions as a result of the pandemic.
