From walls to learning: Progress in Siavonga

By Marco Testa | Volunteer

We are delighted to bring you an exciting update from Siavonga. As of September 2025, the construction of the new classroom at Katulumba Community School is moving steadily forward. The walls are now starting to stand tall, and the building is beginning to take shape. What once was just a plan on paper is quickly becoming a space where hundreds of children will soon learn, dream, and grow.

Once completed, this classroom will directly address the urgent need for space. Today, over 780 students share only four classrooms, forcing many into overcrowded lessons. With the new building, Katulumba School will be able to offer:

  • More school shifts with an expanded timetable.

  • More lessons and instructional time for each grade.

  • Less overcrowding in classrooms, improving comfort and safety.

  • Higher education quality, with teachers able to give more attention to every child.

The coming months will be crucial. The next steps include completing the walls and the roofing. Once the structure is finished, we will turn to furnishing the classroom with desks, blackboards, and learning materials.

To achieve this, we still need support to cover the costs of roofing sheets, cement, and essential classroom furniture. Every contribution, whether small or large, helps us move closer to opening the doors of this new learning space.

We cannot thank you enough for standing with us and with the children of Katulumba Community School. Your generosity has already brought us this far, and we hope you will continue to journey alongside us. Together, we are not just constructing a classroom - we are building opportunity, dignity, and brighter futures.

If you feel inspired, please consider sharing this project with friends or renewing your support today. Each gift, each gesture of solidarity, brings us closer to welcoming the first students into their new classroom.

With gratitude,
Marco
for Katulumba Community School and the Guardavanti team
