“These books take me to places where there is no heat and no flood, only fun.” – Ayesha, age 9
Challenges
Extreme Weather: Heatwaves reduced safe outdoor reading time and shortened sessions.
Flooding: Some streets and communities became inaccessible, reducing the total number of visits possible in June and July.
Impact
Between May and July 2025, the Book Bike brought books and activities to 160 children in low-income neighborhoods of Lahore. Even with fewer operational days, each visit created a safe, joyful, and engaging space for reading and imagination. The program continued to strengthen literacy habits while bringing hope and excitement to children facing environmental and social challenges.
Looking Ahead
Resume a full operational schedule in August and September as weather conditions improve
Introduce themed reading weeks to boost participation and engagement
Expand volunteer involvement to ensure continued access in flood-affected areas
Wherever the Book Bike pedals, it leaves a trail of stories, smiles, and hope.
