KidsOut - Two at a time - twice the fun!
Thank you once again for your continued support for this GlobalGiving project. It is one of the various ways we raise money for our Benevolent Fund, from which we are able to support deserving local, national and international causes.
Helped by the generosity of you, our GlobalGiving supporters, since our last report in March we have made the following donations from our Benevolent Fund:
- £872 to help provide a computer suite for a school in Madagascar. This is a project created by the Rotary Club of Alba, Italy, one of six Rotary Clubs in our ‘Double Triangular’ friendship group. All six clubs have made donations to this project and together we have provided a computer suite, powered by solar panels, for a school in Vohimasina village, Madagascar.
- £1,482 to fund a KidsOut outing. We hired a coach to take 42 children from Thriftwood (a school for children with moderate learning difficulties) to Old MacDonalds Farm and Fun Park for an exciting day out. This was our Club’s contribution to National Rotary KidsOut Day. Last year over 20,000 disadvantaged children nationally were taken out by over 2,300 Rotary volunteers.
- £511 to sponsor Kenyan children through Secondary Education. This is a follow-on from our project providing borewells to schools in Kenya. We have agreed to sponsor three bright children from poor families through Secondary Education (which is not free in Kenya), enabling them eventually to get better paid jobs and thus help their families out of poverty. Without this support these children would have to leave school at the end of their primary education and be limited to poorly paid jobs. This donation funds the first year and we will repeat this for the remaining three years of their Secondary Education.
- £1,817 to the Rotary Foundation, This is our Club’s annual donation to Rotary’s own charity, which each year provides grants to Rotary-led projects all over the world. Since it was founded, more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. Each member of our club donates £6.50 per month which enables us to make a donation at the end of each year of $100 per member.
Thank you once again for your continued support.

Thank you for your continued support for this GlobalGiving project. It is one of the various ways we raise money for our Benevolent Fund, from which we are able to support deserving local, national and international charities.
Helped by the generosity of you, our GlobalGiving supporters, since our last report in November we have made the following donations from our Benevolent Fund:
- £300 to TEECH (Telecoms Eastern European Challenge), to help pay for the shipment of a donation of medical supplies urgently needed in Moldova. This was a follow-on from the delivery of clothing, toys and shoes that we reported in November.
- £7,340 to End Polio Now, Rotary’s project to rid the world of Polio. A significant portion of these funds were generated by our “END POLIO NOW Challenge 2023/24” microproject. See the report on this microproject for further information about Rotary’s fight against Polio.
- £70 to Colchester Zoo, following a talk given at one of our Club lunches. This explained how the approach of zoos has changed over the years, from initially displaying exotic animals for the entertainmaint of visitors, to the valuable work done by modern zoos in the fields of research and conservation.
Thank you once again for your continued support.

Thank you for your continued support for this GlobalGiving project. It is one of the various ways we raise money for our Benevolent Fund, from which we are able to support deserving local, national and international charities.
Helped by the generosity of you, our GlobalGiving supporters, since our last report in July we have made the following donations:
- £2,087 to TEECH (Telecoms Eastern European Challenge), a charity that installs sanitary ware into schools, orphanages and residences for the elderly in Moldova. It also delivers aid, including clothing, toys and shoes to nearby communities, many of which are under pressure supporting Ukrainian refugees. Our donation helped fund the costs of transporting this aid from the UK to Moldova.
- £1,000 to The Smile Train, a charity that provides simple but life-changing operations for people with cleft palates living in resource-poor communities around the world. As well as performing the operations, the visiting specialists train local doctors in the techniques, so that operations can continue once the team returns to the UK.
- £250 to Quilters Junior School, to cover postage costs for their inter-generational pen pals project, whereby pupils exchange letters with elderly Billericay residents and then entertain them for afternoon tea at the school at the end of the year..
- £600 to Mary's Meals, a charity which provides school meals every day for over two million children across East Africa. We support it through the proceeds from a weekly wine raffle at our meetings. The children must attend school to get the meals, which helps ensure they can learn their way to a brighter future.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
