Thank you once again for your continued support for this GlobalGiving project. It is one of the various ways we raise money for our Benevolent Fund, from which we are able to support deserving local, national and international causes.

Helped by the generosity of you, our GlobalGiving supporters, since our last report in February we have made the following donations from our Benevolent Fund:

£2,340 to Hamelin House employment support programme: Hamelin House supports adults with autism and other learning disabilities, who live in the Billericay area. This donation will fund a targeted employment support programme for Hamelin House clients, to enable them to fit into the community better and develop skills that can help them gain employment. The donation is 50% from our own funds and 50% from a Rotary Foundation District Grant (see the final donation below for more information about the Rotary Foundation).

£1,548.75 to Orbis: We raise funds for Orbis each year by organising a sponsored blindfolded walk by our President. Orbis is an international charity providing state-of-the-art eyecare, plus training for local ophthalmic practitioners, in countries where this expertise would not otherwise be available. This is made possible by means of an adapted airliner complete with an operating theatre and lecture hall.

£100 to the Society for Sailing Barge Research: This donation followed a lunchtime talk on the history of the traditional Thames Sailing Barges often seen around the Essex coast and the river Thames. The charity's aim is to record the history of the thousands of these ships built over the years plus information on the people who sailed them.

£250 to the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation: This is another donation in response to a lunchtime speaker. The Foundation, set up following Tom's death from cancer in 2013 at the age of 19, aims to address the specific needs of young people, aged 13-24, with cancer. It has created 8 age-appropriate rooms across the country for teenage cancer sufferers and is funding a research project into treatments for teenage cancers. It also provides financial support for families who need help with the extra costs incurred when a young person has cancer, such as travel to specialist centres, parking and wigs.

£100 to help fund Rotary District 1240's 2025 Leadership and Management Programme: 53 students from Essex schools and colleges have been nominated to benefit from the training in leadership and management delivered by this Rotary programme.

£100 to Schools Ministry Billericay: This donation is towards the costs of transporting children from local Junior schools to a 'Life Expo' event that looks at various aspects of belief and faith, supporting delivery of the RE national curriculum.

£1,728 to the Rotary Foundation: This is our Club’s annual donation to Rotary’s own charity, which each year provides grants to Rotary-led projects all over the world. Each member of our club donates £6.50 per month which enables us to make a donation at the end of each year of $100 per member. Since it was founded, more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
