More Than a Blanket, More Than a Book: A Report on the Comfort You Sent

Dear Valued Donor,

We want you to feel good...no, great...about your support of our mission. Because of you, a child entering a frightening and uncertain new reality was met not with a cold trash bag, but with dignity, hope, and the undeniable feeling that someone out there cares.

When you chose to support Comfort Cases this year, you specifically funded two of the most essential items we pack: blankets and books. On the surface, these seem like simple things. But for a child in crisis, they are everything.

Your Gift of a Blanket Was a Gift of Security.

Imagine the fear of sleeping in an unfamiliar bed, in a home you don't know, surrounded by faces you've just met. Now, imagine a child in that moment being able to pull a brand-new, soft, cozy blanket up to their chin.

Because of you, that scene became a reality. The blanket you provided isn't just fabric; it’s a warm, constant hug. It’s a shield against the scary shadows in a new room. It’s a colorful, personal space that belongs to them and them alone. For so many children, it is the first brand-new possession they can call their own, a tangible piece of comfort to hold onto when everything else is changing.

Your Gift of a Book Was a Gift of Escape.

In the midst of turmoil, a quiet moment can be a lifeline. The book you helped purchase provides a desperately needed escape. It’s a chance for a child to trade their current reality for a world of magic, adventure, or discovery.

A social worker recently told us about an 8-year-old boy who quietly clutched the book he found in his case—a story about dinosaurs—for hours. In that time, he wasn't a child in transition; he was a paleontologist on an expedition. You didn't just give a book; you gave a child a safe place for their mind to go, a tool to feel a sense of normalcy, and a quiet companion for a lonely afternoon.

Your Impact This Year

Thanks to the compassion of donors like you, so far in 2025 we have packed and distributed thousands of Comfort Cases, each containing the warmth of a blanket and the promise of a book. Your gift sent a direct, powerful message to each child who received one: You matter. You are worthy of comfort. You are seen.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for wrapping these children in warmth, sending them on adventures, and giving them the dignity they so richly deserve.

With deepest gratitude,

Rob Scheer
