Crops are growing!

By Jacob Martinez | Project Manager

After the installation of the borehole and water tank. We relaunched our agricultural program with 'seed' funding from generous donors like you.

We have been blessed to hire a couple who have extensive expertise in the agriculture field. Their leadership has resulted in what promises to be an excellent harvest.

After harrowing a large plot of land next to the water tank, maize was planted first and is growing tall and healthy.  The second crop planted was sugar beans, which have sprouted nicely.  Thus far, we have taken advantage of the rainy season to grow our crops.  However, the rainy season will end in the coming weeks.

Fortunately, we have ordered the equipment to install an irrigation system that will run from the borehole tank. Once the maize has been Harvested and the land is cleared, the pipe system will be laid down, and we will be able to continue to plant additional crops.

To fully take advantage of the borehole's capacity, we need to install another tank or even two.  Additionally, the original pump we installed was meant to accommodate just one tank, so the water pump will need to be replaced with a bigger one to ensure the tanks fill up quickly, and the pump will run via solar power.

Funds needed:

Staff: $500 per month

Seed and fertilizer: $800 per planting

5.5hp submersible solar system support: $1000
5000L water tank plus installation: $750
Cost of laying the irrigation system: $850

Please mark your calendars for the upcoming GlobalGiving campaign, where unique donor contributions up to $50 will be 50% matched, while matching funds remain.
