What once stood as an abandoned, neglected facility, formerly used for animal care, has now been completely reimagined into a vibrant, child-friendly, and inclusive space that celebrates learning, creativity, and community. This transformation marks a significant milestone in Alif Laila Book Bus Society’s 40-year journey of empowering children through literacy and imagination. Our new head office and renovated library now serve as the heartbeat of our organization, and this achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our donors, alumni, and volunteers.
Key Achievements
1. Infrastructure Revitalization
• The main building was structurally repaired and aesthetically redesigned to be welcoming, accessible, and stimulating for children and staff alike.
• The entire space was repainted and refurnished using eco-friendly, sustainable materials, promoting environmental consciousness.
• Energy-efficient lighting and ventilation systems were installed, aligning with our green goals.
2. A New Vision for Learning Spaces
• Reading Zones: Bright, cozy nooks filled with age-appropriate literature and bilingual storybooks now welcome children daily. • Creative Corners: Dedicated areas for storytelling, visual arts, puppet-making, and interactive play spark imagination and expression.
• Digital Learning Hub: Access to e-books, educational software, and tablets enables digital literacy and 21st-century learning skills.
3. Expanding Impact Beyond Literacy
• Women’s Skill Development Floor: A designated space now hosts training sessions for underprivileged women in stitching, embroidery, and crafts, helping them earn, learn, and uplift their families.
• Organized Warehousing: New warehouse infrastructure has improved book inventory management, packaging, and dispatch for nationwide outreach.
• Training & Capacity Building Center: The facility now houses training rooms where teachers, librarians, and community educators participate in professional development programs.
• Children’s Hobby Clubs: Weekly clubs in science, storytelling, nature, and traditional crafts are actively engaging children from surrounding communities.
• Botanical Garden: A small but meaningful green space has been developed, where children tend to plants, learn about biodiversity, and reconnect with nature. Program Continuity During Renovation Despite the scale of renovation, core operations remained uninterrupted:
• Mobile library services, school engagements, and training sessions continued without pause.
• Staff worked in rotational shifts and temporary satellite spaces.
• Community sessions and storytelling events were adapted to flexible formats to ensure outreach remained active. Community Engagement This transformation was powered not just by financial resources, but by community will:
• Former Alif Laila children, now professionals and parents, returned to support the rebuild volunteering time, sharing resources, and mentoring.
• Volunteers local and international supported painting, organizing, storytelling, and event planning.
• Donors went beyond contributions sharing ideas, checking in weekly, and helping shape the vision alongside our team. Looking Ahead With construction complete and systems in place, Alif Laila’s new home is now fully operational. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when community, creativity, and commitment come together. We are proud to report: • Over 3,500 books have been catalogued and reshelved
• Five training workshops were conducted in the new facility within the first month
• 120+ children engaged weekly through clubs and storytelling events
• 25 women enrolled in our ongoing skill-based training cycle This renovation is more than a physical upgrade; it is a reflection of our belief that every child deserves a beautiful space to dream and grow. It is a space that radiates peace, inclusion, and purpose. We are deeply grateful to each one of you who believed in this vision. With hearts full of gratitude, we open our doors and step into a new chapter.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
