Over the past three months, Alif Laila Book Bus Society has continued to revitalize its headquarters, a once-abandoned veterinary house that now stands as a beacon of creativity, sustainability, and community empowerment. Nearly a year into this transformative journey, the site has become a thriving example of how imagination and purpose can breathe new life into forgotten spaces.
Built almost entirely through community donations and upcycled materials, the Alif Laila headquarters embodies the organization’s philosophy: that beauty, innovation, and hope can emerge from what others may discard. Every wall, studio, and garden corner tells a story of resilience, resourcefulness, and shared purpose.
Highlights of the Quarter 1. RUNG Craft Studio: A Fusion of Creativity and Function
The front studio has been transformed into the RUNG Craft Shop, serving both as a creative display space and a collaborative meeting area. This shift has enhanced office functionality, reducing workflow interruptions and allowing teams and visitors to connect in a vibrant, art-filled setting that celebrates handmade crafts and design.
2. Summer Camp 2025: Learning in Nature
August marked the successful completion of Summer Camp 2025, where children engaged in hands-on creative learning and outdoor play. The newly designed canopy picnic tables and landscaped garden provided a joyful, safe, and inclusive space that blended learning with nature — a perfect reflection of Alif Laila’s child-centered vision.
3. IBBY Silent Books Exhibition: Stories Beyond Words
The top floor was freshly painted and curated to host the IBBY Silent Books Exhibition, an internationally recognized showcase of wordless storytelling. The exhibition drew educators, teachers, and students from across Pakistan and became one of Alif Laila’s most inspiring and inclusive cultural events, celebrating diversity and universal understanding through art.
4. Partnership with Generation: Empowering Women Artisans
In a meaningful collaboration with Generation, a leading textile brand, Alif Laila created a safe, air-conditioned workspace for women artisans from nearby communities. Through the production of handcrafted puppet kits, this initiative provided dignified employment, skill development, and economic empowerment, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to women’s inclusion in creative industries.
The Space Today: A Living Ecosystem of Change
What began as a renovation project has now evolved into a multi-purpose creative campus — one that nurtures artists, educators, women, and children alike. The Alif Laila headquarters continues to host workshops, teacher training, and community programs for external partners, turning its once-forgotten grounds into a living model of sustainable transformation and inclusive growth.
With continued donor support, Alif Laila aims to expand its impact by strengthening programs for creative learning, artisan development, and environmental sustainability, ensuring that this space remains a hub of innovation, collaboration, and hope for generations to come.
