Last week, the Latin Parish of Gaza City was struck by an air raid. An assessment of the damage and the necessary support to restore the parish’s aid services is currently underway. Since the beginning of this new phase of the conflict, the parish has been a vital point of support for the local population. In the meantime, together with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Caritas, we are coordinating the distribution of essential goods.
The parish is currently sheltering 600 displaced people. Following the recent ceasefire, around ten families had attempted to return to their homes, but with the resumption of hostilities, they were forced to return and seek refuge once again within the Church premises.
Food supplies at the parish are being strictly rationed and are now nearly depleted. Cases of dysentery linked to contaminated water are increasingly common. There is an urgent need for flour, clean drinking water, medicine, and diapers for both children and the elderly.
In recent days, some members of the Pro Terra Sancta team had the opportunity to meet with the Cardinal of Jerusalem, following his latest visit to the Holy Family Parish in Gaza. In this video, our collegue shares insights from that meeting and provides an update on the current situation.
