Dear Donor
In a small corner of Al-Aqsa Camp in northern Gaza, the orphaned child Shahd lives with her mother in a fragile tent made of cloth and plastic sheets. This small tent has become their only shelter after a long and painful journey of loss and displacement.
Shahd once lived with her parents in Al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City, in a modest home filled with warmth and family life. Her father worked hard every day to provide for his family. Shahd used to wait for him at the door each evening, excited to see him return home. Those were simple but beautiful moments that meant the world to her.
But everything changed in an instant. During the recent violence, Shahd lost her father, the pillar of the family. His death left behind a grieving mother and a little girl who still struggles to understand why her father will never come back.
After this devastating loss, Shahd and her mother were forced to flee their home to escape the danger. They moved repeatedly between central Gaza and the southern areas, searching for safety. Their displacement was long and exhausting, as they stayed in overcrowded shelters and temporary tents, never finding stability or peace.
Eventually, their journey led them to Al-Aqsa Camp in northern Gaza, where they now live among thousands of displaced families struggling daily just to survive. Inside their small tent, Shahd’s mother tries to be both mother and father, doing everything she can to comfort her daughter despite the overwhelming hardship.
Food has become scarce, and prices have risen dramatically. Many days pass when Shahd has very little to eat, and sometimes she goes to sleep hungry. Still, she continues to ask her mother about her father, hoping one day he might return.
During one of our field visits to the camp, our team met Shahd standing quietly near the entrance of her tent, watching the people around her. Her eyes carried the silent hope of a child waiting for something simple — a warm meal.
Thanks to your generous donations, our team was able to deliver a hot iftar meal to Shahd and her mother as part of our food distribution efforts for displaced families in northern Gaza. When she received the meal, Shahd held it tightly in her small hands and smiled shyly. In that moment, the meal was more than food — it was a reminder that someone, somewhere, still cares about her.
Shahd’s story is only one among thousands of heartbreaking stories of orphaned children across Gaza who are living through unimaginable hardship.
Your support allows us to continue reaching these vulnerable children and families, bringing them food, relief, and a small sense of hope. Thank you for standing with Shahd and children like her during these incredibly difficult times.
