The project will ensure no Peruvian child battling cancer abandons clinical treatment due to family economic hardship by supporting 30 kids and a family member with meals, shelter, and hospital transportation so they can travel from remote regions to Lima for life-saving treatments.
In Peru, the survival rate for children with cancer is below 50%, since access to treatment depends largely on financial resources and region. The two most important hospitals capable of providing oncological treatment are located in Lima, meaning that patients and at least one family member must cover the costs of travel and accommodation in Lima-often coming from very remote rural areas of the country (the Andes or the Peruvian Amazon).
This project will expand to 30 additional kids and their families and ensure continuous access to advanced medical therapies which is essential for clinical treatment adherence. Albergue Inspira has a strong trajectory in the fight against childhood cancer in Peru, the project will ensure access to safe shelter, meals and hospital transportation to additional families from remote regions who lack the resources to stay in Lima during treatment.
By expanding capacity to care for 30 more patients, the project will achieve a direct impact on 250 families each month-improving their emotional, economic, social, and health conditions-and an indirect impact on 15,000 households through communication outreach.
