Dear Friends,
These past months have reminded us how fragile life can be here in the Philippines. On 9 November 2025, Super Typhoon Fung-wong — locally Uwan — made landfall, bringing devastating winds, flooding, and storm surge to vast swathes of the archipelago. More than 5 million people were affected and over 1.7 million children now live in areas with disrupted homes, schools, and health services as families try to recover.
In the Eastern Visayas — including Leyte Province and around Dulag — the situation has been compounded by earlier storms this season. Typhoon Kalmaegi displaced thousands and caused extensive damage across Visayas, and local disaster reports show over 5,400 people in Dulag alone remain displaced or have lost stable shelter as they seek temporary accommodation with relatives or in community centers.
For pregnant women and new mothers, this is more than an inconvenience — it’s a crisis. Overstretched facilities, disrupted transport, and overcrowded evacuation centers make access to safe prenatal and birth care precarious. That’s why our Dulag Bumi Sehat Clinic matters now more than ever. It is a consistent, accessible place for maternal and newborn care, even as storms and displacement become part of our reality.
In 2025, our clinic in Dulag gave 351 prenatal checkups, delivered 186 babies, carried out 20 hospital transports and helped 106 women with family planning.
From our hearts to yours, thank you for standing with the mothers and babies of the Philippines.
With deep gratitude and love,
Ibu Robin and the Bumi Wadah Team
