A Decade of Learning, A Journey That Began at the Station

This year marks the 10th anniversary of One-Forty’s Migrant School, a milestone that fills us with both pride and gratitude.
Ten years ago, our very first class began with just ten migrant workers who said “yes” after we handed out flyers and personally invited them one by one at Taipei Main Station. That moment sparked the beginning of something much bigger than we imagined.
Since then, we’ve outgrown multiple classrooms and watched our student community grow from a handful to hundreds. This year, in response to the growing demand, we’ve once again relocated, this time to a larger, multifunctional co-learning space. We hope this new home will not only support learning but also spark fresh ideas, connections, and dreams.

Learning as a Pathway to Hope and Connection

Every weekend, our migrant students wake up before dawn to travel long distances, some spending four hours on a bus, just to attend a two-hour class. It’s a commitment that moves us deeply. But they’re not just coming to learn a new skill or language. They come because this space gives them something more: hope, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
For many, One-Forty is more than a classroom. It’s a place to build social support, share stories, and create bonds in an unfamiliar land. They meet peers from different countries, talk about homesickness and work struggles, and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone. These shared experiences have turned our school into a second home for many.
This year, we also launched our very first alumni programs, including career planning sessions, language exchange meetups, and TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) preparation classes. These are designed to help our students continue learning and move forward with clearer goals, even after they’ve completed the basic courses.

Every Moment in the Classroom Builds Toward the Future

Our curriculum has also evolved, not just based on past experiences, but with a forward-looking focus. For example, this year’s computer class for Filipino students included practical skills such as AI basics, advanced document editing, and website creation, which were tailored to their backgrounds and career interests.
We know that many migrant workers in Taiwan are in physically demanding, low-skilled jobs. But we believe their time here can be more than just a way to earn a living. It can be a time to invest in themselves, gain new tools, and develop skills that empower them to shape a better future, especially when they return to their home countries.
At One-Forty, we design our programs not just to fill knowledge gaps, but to open new possibilities. We want every student to see their time in Taiwan as a turning point — a moment to grow, dream, and prepare for what’s next.

A Decade of Growth and the Beginning of What’s Next

From ten students at the train station to hundreds in vibrant classrooms today, this journey has only been possible because of you. Your donations and belief in our mission have helped us create real opportunities for learning, connection, and transformation.
Each dollar you give is more than financial support, it’s a statement of faith, a powerful gesture that says, “I believe in your potential.” With your help, we’ll continue building spaces where migrant workers can thrive, dream, and grow into their fullest selves.
