Because of every migrant student’s participation, the Migrant School has become even more vibrant and inspiring
Imagine this — it’s the very first day of the Migrant School. You’re standing in an empty classroom, with only a few simply printed handouts on the tables and handmade posters on the walls. You and your team are waiting for the Southeast Asian migrant workers you met a week or two ago in the main hall of Taipei Station — when you couldn’t speak each other’s language and had to rely on gestures to invite them to join today’s class.
When those migrant workers actually start walking through the classroom door one by one, how would you feel? Excited, touched, or surprised? Back then, we felt exactly the same — full of joy, but also a deep sense of responsibility. It was the trust those migrant students gave us that made this class continue — for ten years and counting.
Every migrant student is the main character in our classroom
From the very first business class to today’s Indonesian and Filipino course series, the Migrant School has thrived not only because of our team’s effort — but because 105,000 migrant workers have chosen to spend their precious days off learning with us. It’s the pairs of focused eyes in the classroom that make this journey possible.
Each year, our students are different. Some have just set foot in Taiwan, while others are preparing to return home with suitcases full of memories and dreams. No matter which stage of their Taiwan journey we meet them in, we want to say — thank you.
Today, we’d like to share a short film with you — a glimpse into what these ten years have looked like for our migrant students and One-Forty, and how each student has become the main character in this classroom.
