The last few months have been very busy for the shelter. There have been many things in need of repair and thanks to your donations, we have been able to pay to have the necessary repairs made. Many of the kennel doors weren’t working properly, and some of our air conditioners had quit cooling. The shelter only has around 30 kennels, so having 8 that weren’t in working order was a big problem. We have been seeing an increase in intakes with the economy like it is and having fewer kennels available is concerning for those of us caring for these babies.
A sinkhole appeared in the shelter driveway and caused a water pipe to burst. The city was there very quickly and worked to get water restored to the shelter and the driveway repaired. What could have been a disaster was just an inconvenience instead.
Dixie Adoptables has also been working to install a new security system. With the number of thefts that we have had over the past few years, we decided to make this a priority to protect the animals and employees.
We will also be making some improvements to one of the board members' buildings soon so that we can house animals there. We are already using it to house and foster nursing kittens and a mama dog that just had 8 beautiful puppies.
Dixie Adoptables has recently received a generous donation that will enable us to continue making improvements as needed and care for these precious babies in our care.
Everyone is feeling the pinch with the increased cost of living and the price of fuel so high. Your donations make a big difference.
We are also very excited to let you know that we have hired some new employees who are fitting in well and are very hard working! They really have a love for the animals and it shows in their work. Dixie Adoptables also has regular volunteers who come and spend time with the animals and show them special attention. We are very grateful for their commitment to the shelter and these sweet animals.
