Summary

This project will build & fully equip a 50-seat Creative Design Lab as the next step after our transition bootcamp, where girls gain clarity, confidence & direction. Many leave school with talent but limited digital access & pathways to earning. At the lab, they will be trained in design & digital content, linking them to remote work & strengthening designs for our recycling livelihood project. With our proven model, it will prepare 200 girls each year to create, earn & build sustainable futures

Challenge

Kenya faces a deep youth unemployment crisis, with more than 50 percent of high school graduates each year left without pathways to further education or jobs. Girls in rural and peri-urban areas are most affected, with three out of five not in education, employment, or training. A growing skills mismatch means many finish school with talent but no digital access, practical skills, or direction, leaving them vulnerable to poverty and long-term exclusion.

Solution

The lab focuses on design and digital skills, giving girls the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to enter the creative economy. Their design skills also strengthen the wider livelihood projects at Good Kenyan, informing packaging, branding & digital assets for our recycling and crafting work. By linking training to real markets and digital opportunities, the lab prepares girls to access remote and gig work, creative industry roles & practical income pathways that support long-term stability

Long-Term Impact

The lab will open sustainable pathways for 200 girls each year, enabling 500- 600 over three years to move into dignified work, higher education, or entrepreneurship. With Good Kenyan's 75 percent transition rate and 600 youth trained, it will break poverty cycles by giving girls exposure, digital skills, self-agency, and room to innovate. In the long term, alumni will create jobs, stay proximate to global wor,k and uplift entire communities.
