Dear Friends
After 6 years we are now officially closing the Zvamaida School project. I say officially because in our hearts and minds it will never finish. The needs there are too great, and we will I think always be there in goodwill, and spirit in the Rotary way.
Whilst because of all the turmoil in Zimbabwe, be it currency, inflation, or things like Covid intervening, we never lost sight of the objective, which was to provide 6 classrooms for the local children in a very impoverished part of the country. Three hundred plus children needed a classroom to learn instead of having just straw classrooms outside, with logs for siting at and no desks, or even siting under a tree.
We achieved all of this, six classrooms plus desks and chairs/benches and we are just finishing off the building of 10 more latrines and a hand wash station. Originally, it was not our intention to refurbish the existing 10 latrines, but as the years went by, the necessary, became obvious and we tackled and completed this out of necessity.
It is true we would have liked to complete the library for the school, but because of all the inflationary pressures, we were only able to provide the foundations for it and it is our hope that we will be able to finish this part of the project once we can find another $20,000 or so to do this. Similarly, we would have liked to have provided solar power, but again this will I hope be able to be done in the future.
So dear friends, it is time to thank you all again for your help, assistance, and of course money
Very best wishes
Yours sincerely
Danny Lovey
