Your donation rebuilds more than roofs-it rebuilds hope. PRoTechos provides community members with free carpentry training as they rebuild homes in underserved Puerto Rican communities, creating storm-resistant roofs, safer housing, and new employment opportunities. This year, our goal is to build 10 new roofs for a family in need while offering hands-on carpentry training to 30 new apprentices ready to serve their communities, one home, one future at a time.
After Hurricane Maria, an estimated 30,000 homes in Puerto Rico lost their roofs. More than six years later, many families still live under blue tarps or without safe shelter. The island also faces a shortage of skilled builders, slowing recovery and leaving vulnerable communities behind. This ongoing crisis underscores the urgent need to train and equip residents to rebuild safe homes, restore hope, and strengthen their communities.
This project trains residents in carpentry while rebuilding safe roofs across underserved communities in Puerto Rico. Through a free 13-week training program, participants learn resilient construction techniques from certified carpenters as they rebuild real homes. Each graduate gains employable skills and hands-on experience, helping restore secure housing while addressing the island's shortage of skilled workers.
This project strengthens communities from the ground up. Each roof built provides lasting shelter for a family, while each trained participant contributes to a more resilient local workforce. Over time, these efforts reduce housing vulnerability, expand employment opportunities, and foster community pride-creating a sustainable model of recovery and self-reliance that continues long after the project ends.
