Birshi Gandu Primary School is the only school serving more than 300 children in this rural community in Northern Nigeria. Today, its classrooms are crumbling and unsafe, putting education and children's futures at risk. When there is no school, children are more vulnerable to early marriage, child labor, and lifelong poverty. For years, families in Birshi Gandu have relied on this school as the heart of their community. But today, cracked walls, unstable roofing, and overcrowded classrooms make learning difficult and dangerous. During heavy rains, lessons stop. When heat becomes unbearable, concentration fades. Some parents begin to question whether sending their children is worth the risk. Without safe classrooms, attendance drops. Girls are often the first to stay home. As enrollment declines, so does opportunity.
This project will fully reconstruct damaged classrooms at Birshi Gandu Primary School, replacing unsafe structures with durable walls, reinforced roofing, proper flooring, and secure doors and windows. Classrooms will be furnished with desks and learning materials so students can study in a stable, protected environment. By restoring safe space for learning, the project will increase attendance, protect girls' access to education, and ensure more than 300 children can continue their schooling.
Rebuilding Birshi Gandu Primary School will create lasting change for generations of children. Safe, stable classrooms will increase enrollment, improve attendance, and strengthen academic performance. Girls will be more likely to remain in school, delaying early marriage and expanding future opportunities.
