Dear supporters,
The African Impact Foundation is thrilled to share an exciting update on the progress of our Youth Community Centrein Livingstone! This centre will soon serve as a safe, empowering space for young people to learn, grow, and build skills that lead to brighter futures.
August was a productive month for our construction team. The foundation walls were successfully raised, marking a major milestone in the building process. Preparations are now underway for metal works, roofing, and the painting of beams and trusses.
Throughout the month, the team focused on procuring essential materials, managing labour payments, and conducting safety and compliance inspections. On 21 August, a building inspector visited the site and expressed satisfaction with both the quality and pace of work. Later in the month, installation of beams and columns began, along with anti-termite treatment of the foundations to protect the structure for years to come.
We’re proud to share some of this month’s key achievements:
Completed all foundation excavation and slab work, including final inspections.
Procured all metal and roofing materials for the next phase.
Began painting of steel beams and trusses to prevent corrosion.
Advanced metal works, with welding and installation in progress.
Conducted electrical inspections and paid connection fees to ZESCO, Zambia’s national power utility.
Ensured a steady water supply on site through bowser hire.
Passed multiple Livingstone City Council inspections for safety compliance.
Ordered and paid for Pan Bricks for the upcoming superstructure.
Maintained on-budget performance and effective coordination between contractors and suppliers.
Of course, every project has its challenges. In August, metal materials were delivered two weeks earlier than scheduled, creating a storage issue. Our contractor acted quickly to secure safe storage, and the supplier covered part of the cost as compensation. During this time, the team painted the steel materials, preventing corrosion and ensuring they were ready for installation — a proactive solution that kept the project on track.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing to:
Complete installation of metal structures
Lay the concrete slab for the next section
Begin roofing works
Apply final painting to the steel after installation
Our partnership with the local community remains at the heart of this project.
“We’re confident the youths will make great use of this space,” shared the Councillor for Linda Community in Nasanzu Ward. “Our community is proud to be among the first to receive such a facility in Livingstone District. Once the skills workshops begin, we hope to leverage the Constituency Development Fund to support income-generating activities — allowing young people to be trained locally instead of traveling long distances for services.”
This collaboration captures what makes the Youth Community Centre so special — a project built with the community, for the community.
Every brick laid and beam installed is thanks to the generosity of our supporters on GlobalGiving. Your contributions are helping us build not just a centre, but a foundation for opportunity, empowerment, and sustainable change for Zambia’s youth.
We can’t wait to share more updates as construction continues — and to see this vision come to life in 2026!
With gratitude,
The African Impact Foundation Team
