When we officially and ceremoniously opened the doors to the new kitchen in November 2017 everyone was ecstatic - with good reason! The kitchen is modern, clean and easy to keep clean. Everyone is happy and very appreciative for this wonderful kitchen. But now the question is: "How long must the children go on eating in the dusty make-shift woodshed with its dirt floor with only holes for windows?" Dust and wind are not a good combination when there are no doors or windows that open and close.
The children who come to the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center are living in the slums of Nakuru or on extremely poor shambas. The meals that are provided by LLK are usually their only meals of the day.
It's time to get back to the drawing board! There is a large door and window at the front of the kitchen which is meant to go out to the dining hall one day. And that day really should be sooner than later. We are now raising funds for the dining hall so that the children can eat in a clean and hygienic environment. As it will be built directly attached to the kitchen, the concept is that meals will be given out over the counter through the large window to at least 200 children at a time.
It will be a very large dining hall as it will also be used for other school activities and meetings. This will be a construction - like the others at our school - that will be built to last for generations of pupils. It will be amazing to be able to open the doors of the new dining hall in November 2018 during our next visit. You can help make it possible! Every donation - large or small - makes a difference - a lasting difference. We can do it with your help.
HARAMBEE - Let's join hands for this common cause - and really make a difference in the lives of poverty stricken children!
