Building resilient communities

By Maisie Mayne | Fundraising intern

To our supporters,

Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s rapidly growing capital, is home to approximately 300 informal settlements. Despite the nation’s economic progress, these communities often lack essential services such as clean water and adequate sanitation. Addressing these challenges is critical for sustainable urban development. In collaboration with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), our project aims to empower these communities by building resilience from the ground up, utilizing academic research and community engagement to improve living conditions.

Progress and Achievements

1.Community Engagement and Research Initiatives

Partnering with UNSW has enabled us to conduct comprehensive research to understand the unique challenges faced by residents of Phnom Penh’s informal settlements. This collaboration has facilitated the development of tailored strategies to address issues related to infrastructure, water, and sanitation.

2.Infrastructure Development

Through community-led initiatives, we have begun implementing sustainable infrastructure projects. These include the construction of reliable water supply systems and sanitation facilities, directly improving the health and well-being of residents.

3.Capacity Building and Education

Educational programs have been established to train community leaders in maintaining and managing new infrastructure. This approach ensures the sustainability of improvements and empowers residents to take ownership of their community’s development.

Call to Action

We invite donors, partners, and stakeholders to join us in this vital initiative. Your support is crucial in helping us achieve our goal of sustainable development and improved living conditions for all residents of Phnom Penh’s informal settlements.
