Camel Library Quarterly Progress Report
When the Camel Arrives, the Village Changes
In remote villages across Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, there are no bookstores.
No school libraries.
Sometimes, not even proper roads.
But once every week, children hear the soft bells of a camel approaching.
They run.
Because they know the stories have arrived.
This Quarter at a Glance
This is literacy delivered on camelback, sustainable, culturally rooted, and community-driven.
The Camel Caravan in Motion
Our Camel Libraries are designed for places vehicles cannot reach.
Each visit includes:
The camel is not just transport; it is dignity, tradition, and environmental sustainability combined.
Human Stories Behind the Numbers
Behind every statistic is a child waiting.
Rubina (10)
She loves fairy tales. She borrows books and reads them to her younger siblings at night by dim light.
Sania (11)
She does not attend school. But she never misses the Camel Library. Picture books are her doorway to imagination.
Maira (12)
She finishes household chores early so she can sit in the front row during storytelling.
Saad (12)
He proudly told our team, “Now our village also has books.”
Fazeela (10)
After each session, she narrates stories to her entire family.
Shehla (9)
Her growing love for reading has convinced her parents to value education more deeply.
This is generational change, beginning with a single book.
Quarterly Engagement Summary
Across nine Camel Libraries, Nayab, Amal, Sukoon, Raunaq, Khushi, Mashal, Umeed, Roshan, and Afzaal, we maintained strong outreach:
Even in January, when floods temporarily paused Mashal Camel Library, services resumed quickly in February, because communities asked for it back.
That demand tells its own story.
What Changed This Quarter?
Reading Confidence is Growing
Children now:
Girls Are Showing Up — In Large Numbers
In many villages, girls outnumber boys in attendance.
The Camel Library provides a safe, welcoming space for them to learn.
Villages Feel Seen
The arrival of the Camel Library is a celebration.
Parents gather. Elders observe. Younger children wait eagerly.
Books are no longer distant objects. They are part of village life.
Challenges We Navigated
Yet, attendance remained strong.
Because when access exists, children choose to learn.
What’s Next?
With continued GlobalGiving support, we aim to:
Each additional dollar strengthens book supply, camel care, logistics, and storytelling materials.
Why This Model Matters Globally
The Camel Library is:
It proves that literacy solutions do not always require buildings, they require imagination and commitment.
A Final Image
A child sitting cross-legged on desert soil.
A book open.
A camel resting nearby.
A story unfolding.
This is what your support makes possible.
Thank you for helping us ensure that geography does not determine opportunity.
