Dear Friends,
The House of Hope in Davao, is the only regional facility in the Philippines providing healing for children with various forms of cancer. Many, from severely impoverished families, are in later stages due to the severe poverty of their families and lack of public health facilities.
Dr. Yolanda, PhD, is currently in the the Philippines on a planning tour for the Asia America Inititiative and One World Institute partnership program. In Davao, she observes: "Doctors, Nurses and youth volunteers have resumed treatment activities under post-pandemic rules. Asia America Initiative and One World Institute are very excited about the new volunteers joining our long-time dedicated staff to give children what they need for healing."
AAI supports children receiving treatment by supplementing nutrition to aid in full recovery and to increase their lifespan. Books and educational materials are supplied to give hope for the future. Our arts programs, build a joyful attitude to embrace life and enhance their healing process. Toys are given to provide a companion for the children when no one else can be there.
People in much of the under-developed world, such as the Philippines, are unable to afford medical care for life-threatening diseases or to access life-saving medicines. Quality medical care does not exist and travel to specialized clinics for life-threatening illnesses such as cancer whether in urban areas or remote provinces is too expensive. Severe poverty and malnutrition afflict more than 60% of the population. Healing from cancer involves more than medicine; it requires a positive and joyful attitude which is difficult to develop in impoverished communities.
This heart-felt project is featured this week in GlobalGiving's Little by Little Campaign which runs from Mon-Fri April 3-7. If you make a donation by Friday, GlobalGiving will add an extra 50% to your gift. (If you make a donation of $50 or less - Little by Little, we can make a difference.)
(Example: $50 donation + $25 match = $75 for the children !)
