Can we Reward Our Teachers with Training

By Tyrone Bennett | Leader of Action Change

Hey to our small but mighty group of 29,

I’m writing this because I want to be real with you about a project that is incredibly close to my heart, but honestly, it’s been a struggle to get others to see what we see. Right now, there are only 29 of you supporting our Teacher Capacity Building fund. I’m not sure why this one hasn’t taken off yet, because to me, it’s the most important "engine" behind every child’s success in our classrooms.

Just last week, I had two of our absolute heroes—a Grade 4 teacher and a Grade 2 teacher in South Africa—come to me with a request. They wanted to use their own personal time to attend a specialized course on helping children work through trauma.

If you know the reality of life in the townships, you know that trauma is a massive, heavy shadow that follows these kids into the classroom every day. These teachers don't live flashy lives; they earn basic salaries and I constantly find them dipping into their own pockets to buy extra supplies for their students. They are so dedicated that when I told them our fund was empty, they asked if we could just give them a loan that they would pay back over nine months.

It broke my heart. These are the people on the front lines of change, and they shouldn't have to go into debt to become better educators for our children. I want this fund to be ready so that next time, I can look them in the eye and say "Yes, we’ve got you."

This is where we can shift the story together.

From March 17th to the 20th, GlobalGiving is running the Little by Little campaign, and it’s the perfect moment for our small group to make a massive noise. During those four days, every donation up to $50 is matched at 50%.

  • Your $50 turns into $75 instantly.

  • That $75 goes directly toward course fees, transport, and the materials these teachers need to bring those new skills back to their students.

When you train one teacher, you aren't just helping them; you are changing the lives of the 40 kids in their class this year, and every class for the next 20 years. It is the ultimate "ripple effect."

Please save the date for March 17th. If you can, please share this link with just one friend who believes that teachers are the backbone of a better world. Let’s see if we can grow our group of 29 and show these teachers that they don't have to do this alone.

Thank you for being the ones who stayed and for believing in the people who lead our classrooms. You’re legends!
