At the beginning of the year, CHSAN launched an ambitious program focused on preventing malnutrition in the Grand'Anse department. Due to a lack of awareness and knowledge about proper nutrition practices, many communities still suffer the consequences of malnutrition. Our main objective is to educate and involve the population in preventive actions to reduce the incidence of malnutrition, particularly targeting children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Program Targets
Awareness-raising activities target several types of community institutions, including:
- Schools: to reach children from a young age and involve parents.
- Churches: as community gathering places to disseminate important information.
- Community health centers: to provide practical advice and resources on nutrition.
Activities that will be carried out:
We will be deploying our awareness efforts in 8 municipalities in the Grand'Anse department. Here is an overview of the main activities that will be carried out:
1. Awareness Workshops:
Interactive sessions will be held in schools and community health centers. These workshops will cover topics such as:
- The importance of a balanced diet.
- Food groups and their benefits.
- Preparing nutritious meals with local ingredients.
2. Training Sessions for Teachers and Community Leaders:
We will train teachers and church leaders to become nutrition ambassadors in their communities. They will receive tools and educational materials to continue educating their fellow citizens.
3. Distribution of Educational Materials: Brochures, posters and other resources will be distributed to reinforce the importance of preventive nutrition, offering practical advice on daily diet.
4. Cooking Demonstrations: Culinary demonstrations will be organized to show how to prepare nutritious dishes using locally available ingredients. This will allow participants to see firsthand how to integrate nutrition into their lifestyle.
Conclusion
CHSAN's preventive nutrition awareness program is a significant step towards combating malnutrition in the Grand'Anse region. By working closely with communities, we are confident that these efforts will help create an environment where every individual has the knowledge and resources necessary to lead a healthy and nutritious life.
