Thanks to the donations we receive through Global Giving we have been able to continue functioning and providing education and childcare to children aged 6months – 16 years in the violence and poverty stricken Favela of Mata Escura, Brazil.
This is one of our few sources of income and therefore without it we would not be able to continue offering literacy and numeracy. Over and above education the children also have a safe place to learn and play and 3 meals per day. This community suffers from unreliable and poor standard public education, drug abuse, gang violence, the highest murder rates in the city, a lack of public sanitation and poor quality housing.
The children at the school continue to receive fresh fruit every day and are progressing every day in their literacy and numeracy skills.
