Panha, a 17-year-old student in Phnom Penh, faced family struggles and unsafe living conditions in a community marked by gangs and drugs. Living with her father, a security guard, she learned to be resilient despite her environment.
To protect herself, Panha learned to act like a boy, even getting a temporary haircut like her father’s. Although her father is often busy, he tries to shield her and her brother from danger, but their environment still stays risky and unpredictable.
When Panha reached out to AusCam’s social workers during a tough time, she received vital emotional, emergency support, and academic support. This help boosted her confidence, improved her grades, and inspired her to become a community leader and a future doctor.
“Thanks to AusCam’s support, now I stay in school and grades steadily improve, and my confidence blossoms. The emotional guidance I received helped me navigate stress more effectively and my relationship with my family has grown more positive.
With continued support from AusCam, Panha is working towards her dream of serving her community as a compassionate doctor—showing how empowering vulnerable youth can transform their lives and brighten their futures.
